Indigenous First Nations Canadian artists combine traditional art practice with contemporary minimalism, Pop art, and performance art photography, in this new group exhibition presented in partnership with The Baldwin Gallery.
Robert Davidson is one of Canada’s most respected and important contemporary visual artists. A Northwest Coast native of Haida and Tlingit descent, he is a master sculptor of totem poles and masks and works in a variety of other media as a printmaker, painter and jeweller. He is best known as an impeccable craftsman whose creative and personal interpretation of traditional Haida form is unparalleled. Many of his works are considered post-modern masterpieces and are sought by collectors internationally.
Like Davidson, Kwakwaka’wakw artists, Sonny Assu and Steve Smith and Coast Salish artist, Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun, are inheritors of the Formline art tradition. Formline art is the primary design element on which Northwest Coast art depends and is distinguished by the use of characteristic shapes. Formlines are continuous, flowing, curvilinear lines, historically employed in totem poles, house fronts and masks.
Meryl McMaster is of half Plains Cree and half Scottish descent and uses photographic practice to explore history and identity. Her work is predominantly photography-based, incorporating the production of props, sculptural garments and performance that transports the viewer out of the ordinary into a space of contemplation and introspection.

Event Details
Christmas is just around the corner and with it West Lothian Clarion will be holding our 9th Annual Santa Cyclocross event!
The race has grown over the years into probably the best main club event, with loads of our youth and adult club riders taking part. Last year was our biggest ever turn out from the club and this year we would like to see even more club riders taking part. This is a fun grassroots event designed to give everyone a chance to race their bikes in a fun safe environment. The focus is on fun and enjoying being out on the bike with your friends and having a big smile on your face. This race is ideal for those new to the sport or want to try it out. You can use any bike you want. The race is known for its participants embracing the festive spirit and turning out in some great Christmas themed fancy dress and bike dressing. Fancy dress is totally optional. All outfits and bike dressing must be safe to the rider and other competitor. The race can be entered solo or as a pair and is open to both first and second claim members. For those newer to the sport there is a pairs race where teams of two riders can take part in the race in a relay fashion.
Solo entry is £5. Pairs entry will be £8. All adult riders entering the solo race need to be first claim members of the West Lothian Clarion to win the CX championship. For all adult race entrants a valid British Cycling race licence must be presented on the day. If you don’t have one a day race licence can be purchased for £3.
If your planning to race please let us know here, the Forum or drop us a line at youthcoaching@westlothianclarion.co.uk so we can pre-load our timekeeping app.
Before the adult race our younger youth members will be racing. Please come along before the race and cheer them on and see how they handle the course.
All riders will be gridded before the race, gridding positions will be based on a variety of factors which may or not include previous results. Fancy Dress may effect grid placing. There will be a food stall serving hot drinks and home baking. There is also a café in the leisure centre too. If you are entering the leisure centre please wear shoe covers or take your muddy shoes off. Race timings will be added nearer the day of the event.

Join us for our Festive Saturday Art Workshop!
Inspired by Linlithgow Museum’s printing collections, join us for our family art workshop aimed at children aged 5 years old and upwards. In this session we will be festive and create our own wrapping paper!
Have a go at block printing. Either use our festive stamps or create your own. Create your own wrapping paper design to take home. We will provide white craft paper, but if you would like to bring your own special or premium paper to use you can.
The workshop is free but spaces are limited and must be booked in advance. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Cancellation Policy: Please notify us at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel (before 11.00am Friday 13th November). Contact the museum directly on 01506 670 677 and leave a message.
Please Note:
This workshop could be messy so old clothes you don’t mind getting dirty are recommended. Aprons will be provided for smaller children, but for older children please bring an apron or old shirt. Artwork will need to dry so we recommend doing our festive scavenger hunt after the workshop.

Event Details
Join us for a 6-week Mindful Parenting course. This is aimed at parents and carers of young children and young teens. During the course we will be looking initially at our own wellbeing. Make notes that how we are directly affects how our children behave. We know that how we are, how we respond to the stresses and strains of daily life, impacts more on our children than anything that we say to them. We need to be able to show our children how to respond to the emotionl stressors in life. This works better than being pulled along reactively to these.
In this 6-week course we learn how to be more present for our children, how to be with our difficulties without being overwhelmed and how to bring a sense of calm and ease into family life. As well as having the opportunity to share practices in the sessions, there is a handbook full of practices to share with your children.
The 6-week course costs £150. There is an earlybird discount, for anyone booking in before the end of September (£130). Please get in contact for concessionary or subsidised spaces. There is also an option of paying a £50 deposit now, and then setting up a payment plan for the remainder.
The six weeks look like this;
Session 1: What is mindful parenting?
2: Paying Attention
3: Mindful Listening
4: Mindfulness of Feelings
5: Managing the Big Feelings with Self-Compassion
6: Nourishing Happiness and Gratitude
