Race 4 in the 2020 Forth Valley Wednesday Evening series. Try an outdoor adventure sport around the precincts of Linlithgow Palace. Ideal for all ages and abilities, families, children and runners welcome. Loads of help is available and no experience is necessary. Start from 17.30-19.00 (everyone starts at a different time so you can’t follow!)
New to orienteering? It’s a trail run (and often an off-trail run!) with a difference – an orienteering race doesn’t follow a set route. Instead you have to visit a series of checkpoints and register each one with an electronic timing chip. The checkpoints are marked by flags on the ground and may be along paths, earth banks, streams or anywhere around the area. The challenge is to race between each one, choosing your own route between the checkpoints, using a special orienteering map (which you get to keep too). Why not come and give it a go?
What do I need? It’s an outdoor sport, dress for the weather conditions. You may encounter mud and bushy vegetation so please don’t bring your designer clothes… We’ll give you a map, compass and an electronic card for recording your time. Courses -Kids: Ideal for under 16s. Approx 1.5km. Newcomers: Perfect if you haven’t done any/much before. Approx 2.5km, allow up to an hour to complete! On and off-path. Technical: Harder navigation, for those who have done it before or who are in search of a challenge! Approx 4km with hills.
Cost Group £6 Adult £6 Under 20s £4
