Rachmaninov's All-Night Vigil with the Scottish Chamber Choir

The Scottish Chamber Choir is coming to Linlithgow in June, with a fabulous performance of the Rachmaninov All-Night Vigil. 

Often referred to as his “crowning achievement,” the Vespers is a work of immense scale and emotional depth. For the musically curious, it is a fascinating study in choral texture; Rachmaninov utilises “choral orchestration” to move from the profound, earth-shaking depths of the low basses to the shimmering heights of the sopranos. It is a piece that demands everything from a choir, and are already finding the process of preparing its rich, Slavonic harmonies incredibly rewarding (it is reported to have sounded great even in the first rehearsal!). We will be performing in the Parish Church of St. Michael on Kirkgate- the acoustics of this historic space is the perfect match for the soaring lines of the Vigil.
