Event Details

Join me this September during peak fungi season for an introduction to wild mushrooms in the beautiful Beecraigs Country Park

Autumn is the season of bounty for mushrooms and fungi, yet knowing where to start is the biggest hurdle for those new to foraging. Join me for an afternoon’s stroll around a local woodland discovering the weird and wonderful world of fungi. We will look at how to recognise the environments that particular species are most likely to be found in and build up a step by step method of how to approach a mushroom ID. Discover the range of flavours, textures and what they can add to your diet. A key part of identification we will look at both edible species and those that are inedible, toxic and poisonous as well as discussing how to forage safely.

Discuss how sustainability is an essential part of foraging, both for mushrooms as well as plants, nuts and fruits. Look at how wild food can become a complementary part of a meal while being sympathetic to the environment around you, and why this is such a key part of the forager’s philosophy.

The walk should last ~2.5 hours with the opportunity to stay a little later to chat and ask questions. Exact location of the walk will be confirmed via email before the event.

Suitable for all ages with children welcome – individual or family tickets.
