Description:

Linlithgow Kayak Racing (LKR) is an established and friendly flatwater kayak racing club, where kayaking is safe and fun. There are opportunities for all ages and abilities, with activities and training geared towards racing enabling members to compete in local, Scottish and National sprint and marathon events.

LKR caters for complete beginners, and runs come-and-try sessions and beginner courses in spring and summer months (see the LKR website for details). The club offers a support structure that enables members to progress at their own pace. It also has a strong performance/competition group with members of all ages competing nationally and internationally, and a junior group for children aged 8-12 years.

LKR has an active management committee, experienced coaches, a wide range of boats and equipment available for all members to use. Communication via a well-used WhatsApp group enables group paddles to be organised by members during the week and the club also offers secure storage for member’s personal boats.

Where and when do you meet?

Our Park Farm Workshop is based close to The Park Bistro restaurant. Weekly club sessions are held on the Union Canal on Saturday mornings from 9.45am, enabling members to paddle in groups at varying paces / distances and normally end the sessions with well-deserved refreshments at The Park Bistro. These club mornings are held all-year round.

The junior sessions for under 12's are held on Saturday mornings from 9.30-11.30am meeting at the Manse Road Basin.

Indoor paddle machine sessions are held during the winter months on Thursday evenings. These enable members to develop their paddling technique on stationary ergo machines and are suitable for all abilities.

Come and try sessions are offered during the spring / summer months and beginner courses consisting of six lessons, are held regularly during the year.

Our performance/competition group trains six days a week, both on and off the water, with coached sessions on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Why would I be interested in getting involved?

Linlithgow Kayak Racing (LKR) welcomes both adult and junior members to this exciting and rewarding sport. If you have the enthusiasm to learn racing kayaking skills (and don’t mind the inevitable occasional dip in the water whilst learning) then LKR offers you the opportunity to train and paddle regularly, take part in both racing and social events locally and further afield, meet new friends and be part of an active and inclusive club.
