Description:

The Linlithgow Union Canal Society looks after & maintains the Union Canal, run weekend boat trips from March to September and some weekly trips and private charters. We also operate a tea room, museum & workshop and all ancillary buildings. Additionally, we organise various events, functions and promotions throughout the year. Linlithgow Union Canal Society is one of the most active in the area. We are proud of our heritage, and our 3* Scottish Tourist Visitor Attraction.

Our premises and boats are all available for private hire, and we work in conjunction with other organisations and charities in the area.

Where and when do you meet?

We operate from Manse Road Basin, Linlithgow. The Union Canal Society is totally open, and all-inclusive. We are open all year round. For insurance purposes, volunteers need to be members of our Society, but fees range from £0 to £10 per annum. Family membership is £15.00. The basin is wheelchair friendly, although our boats are not suitable for the disabled. (Seagull Trust at Ratho & Falkirk are available for disabled users).

Why would I be interested in getting involved?

There is no limit to the volunteering opportunities, which are as varied as Gardening, Tea Room helpers, Museum Staff, building and engineering, and all things in between. Much of the volunteering on-site is done on Wednesday & Saturday mornings, although many of the volunteering duties can be done from home.
